Strength Training & Muscle Building in Franklin Lakes, NJ
Smart, sustainable strength programs for adults who want to get stronger without getting hurt.

Built for adults who want to actually get stronger
Whether you want to add lean muscle, lift heavier than you ever have, prevent the bone density loss that comes with age, or just stop feeling weaker year after year, strength training is the most effective tool we have. The challenge is doing it correctly.
Our strength training program is built for adults who want real results without the gym-bro nonsense, the unnecessary risk of injury, or programs that copy what 20-year-old powerlifters are doing on Instagram. You'll get a plan designed around your body, your goals, and your real-life schedule.
Progressive overload, done right
Our entire strength philosophy rests on one principle: progressive overload. Every week, every session, we're carefully nudging your body to do a little more than it did before. That's how real strength is built.
But progressive overload alone isn't enough. We pair it with what we call "pre-hab" — targeted exercises designed to address weak spots and movement patterns before they turn into injuries. The goal isn't just to make you stronger. It's to keep you healthy enough to keep training for years.
Strength training is a long-term game. You only get to play it if you stay healthy. Our job is to make sure you do.

Programming that respects your body
- Most of our strongest adult clients train in the 5-8 rep range. Older adults and beginners typically work in the 8-10 rep range.
- We don't max-test most adults. Testing your one-rep max isn't worth the injury risk for the goals you actually have.
- We track every weight and every rep, every session — so you can see real progress, not just feel it.
- We build in deload weeks regularly to let your body recover and adapt.
- Mobility work is built into every program. Strong muscles with stiff joints don't translate to better movement.
A gym built for serious training
Our private 3,400 sq ft studio is equipped for real strength work:
- Barbells, racks, and bumper plates
- Full dumbbell collection
- Kettlebells across the full weight range
- Cable machines and lat pulldown
- Leg press
- Conditioning equipment: ropes, rowers, assault bikes
- Mobility tools and dedicated stretching space
You won't find rows of fancy machines here. What you'll find is the equipment that actually builds strength, functional capacity, and durability.

But What If…
"I'm too old to lift heavy"
We have clients in their 90s. Grandmothers in their late 80s deadlifting weights that work for them. Strength is relative you'll lift the weight that's appropriate for you, and we'll progress you safely from there. The truth is, if you want to maintain bone density and prevent the muscle loss that comes with aging, you NEED to challenge your body. The alternative is decline.
"I don't want to bulk up"
Bulking up is genuinely difficult. It requires a deliberate increase in calories and a program specifically designed to build mass. If you're not actively trying to bulk up, trust us: it won't happen by accident. Most clients see leaner, stronger physiques, not bulky ones.
"I'll get hurt"
We take extreme caution to prevent that. In 13 years of business, we've had remarkably few injuries and the few we've seen typically came from clients pushing too hard on their own outside of sessions. We find the right pace, we listen when something feels off, and we constantly remind clients to "live to fight another day."
Ryan, in his 40s — and stronger than ever
Two sessions a week became four. A 185-pound squat became 225. Real strength built one rep at a time.
Ryan came to Evolve with a simple goal: build a consistent workout routine and get into better shape. Over the past few years, he's done that — and a lot more.
What started as twice-a-week sessions has grown to four. His back squat is up from 185 to 225 pounds. His trap-bar deadlift from 155 to 205. His bench press from 135 to 210. He runs 18 miles per hour on the Woodway treadmill.
None of that happened by accident. It's the combination of his commitment to showing up and a program designed to push him steadily and safely — week after week, year after year.
Common questions
No. We've trained complete beginners and lifelong lifters. We meet you where you are and build from there
Most of our clients train 2–3 times a week. That's enough to see real progress without overwhelming your recovery.
Most clients notice strength improvements within 4–6 weeks. Visible changes in muscle and body composition typically take 8–16 weeks of consistent training. Strength is a long game — be patient and the results compound.
Not necessarily. Nutrition matters, but you don't need to overhaul your diet to start seeing results from strength training. We'll give you general guidance on protein and recovery basics, and recommend specialists if you want a more detailed nutrition plan.
Absolutely. Strength training is one of the best foundations for almost any fitness goal — whether you're trying to lose weight, get faster on the field, or improve your golf swing. We can customize your program to combine strength work with whatever else you're working on.
